Even though Cyberpunk 2077 fell short of initial expectations and disappointed a good number of gamers, the title did raise the bar well, while the release of the Edgerunners series on Netflix was very beneficial to the RPG, which saw a great number of people (re)coming to Cyberpunk 2077, allowing CD Projekt RED to achieve its best third quarter.

It is therefore no surprise to see that the Polish studio intends to release a Game of the Year version of Cyberpunk 2077, probably during the year 2023. This will only happen after the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion., which still has no release date. But according to Adam Kiciński, CEO of the company, this choice results from a logical process.

It is the natural order of things. It was the same with The Witcher, after the expansions we finally released the Game of the Year Edition, and it’s been available ever since. The same path is to be expected here.

Bringing out such an edition makes it possible to attract new players and therefore to earn a little more money, without necessarily working a lot more. The Game of the Year editions offer, in general, all the free and paid content released, which is why it will arrive after the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion. We will know more in the coming months.
