The Game Awards 2022 are in full swing. In the middle of the World Premieres, Square Enix came to reveal an open secret: the release date of Final Fantasy 16. Were the rumors correct? Here is everything that was announced.
Release date, gameplay, a crazy trailer for FF16
The surprise had been spoiled, but Final Fantasy 16 still provided the show. Naoki Yoshida, producer of the game, took to the stage at the Game Awards 2022 to formalize the release date, which had leaked a few days before the long-awaited announcement. The appointment is therefore given for June 22, 2023 exclusively on PS5. The game is also set to release on PC someday, as a scramble from Square Enix and Sony revealed in advance a year earlier.
It is therefore above all the new trailer for the PS5 exclusivity that will mark the spirits. Entitled Revanche, it highlights several of the game’s Primordials like Shiva, Ifrit or Bahamut who put themselves on the face, but also gameplay sequences with Clive. The art direction is a pure delight, while new story elements and a small preview of the Final Fantasy 16 mini-games have also been unveiled.
We also recall that Yoshi-P had displayed his ambition to create a more mature episode aimed at those who grew up with the saga, but with more modern gameplay to attract younger audiences, who do not yet know the Licence. Clues also suggest that FF16 will be much more mature than the other episodes of the saga with more sensitive themes than usual.
No surprise either, pre-orders of Final Fantasy 16 will be open in the wake of the Game Awards 2022 with some bonuses offered to all those who reserve their copy. For example, they will get the “Braveheart” weapon, the “Scholar’s Glasses” accessory to increase the XP earned and the “Ketsy’s Lucky Charm” accessory which will increase the amount of Gils earned.
